“The purpose of the regional facility, is to provide treated brackish water (salty groundwater) for the Southern Cameron County region. This project also provides for an alternative water supply source away from the Rio Grande River for the majority of the SRWA partners.”

Energy recovery turbines were incorporated into the plant design in order to combat a future rise in feed water TDS. The plant will need only minor modifications to the high pressure feed pumps as the water quality degrades and required feed pressure increases.
