Global Water Intelligence and International Desalination Association Announce the 2009 Global Water Award Winners
Tampa, FL, June 3, 2009 – On April 27, 2009 the International Desalination Association (IDA) and The Global Water Intelligence
(GWI) hosted their annual Global Water Awards Ceremony in Zurich, Switzerland. The ceremony recognizes what senior executives across the international water industry have acknowledged as the most significant achievements of the past year. Doosan Hydro Technology was involved in two projects that were nominated for a 2009 Award.
Shoaiba 3 IWPP, Saudi Arabia was Awarded 2009 Thermal Desalination Plant of the Year. The category was awarded for the thermal desalination plant, commissioned in 2008, that represents the most impressive technical achievement in the industry. A consortium of ACWA Power Projects, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, and Malakoff Berhad developed the plant. The EPC team was Siemens and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction. Doosan Hydro Technology provided the design and equipment for the remineralization system.
Accra Desalination Project, Ghana was nominated for 2009 Desalination Deal of the Year. The category recognized the deal signed during 2008 which represents the most significant step forward for the industry in terms of financial innovation, or in meeting the demands of challenging circumstances. The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) signed a Water Purchase Agreement in 2008 with Aqualyng Ghana Limited (AGL) for production of fresh water. The Water Purchase Agreement was for the provision of 20,000 m3/day of desalinated water to be produced in Nungua, Accra. Aqualyng collaborated with Doosan Hydro Technology to provide the design, procurement, manufacture and start-up services for the project. Doosan Hydro Technology will provide the 5.28 MGD two (2) pass SWRO system.
