Membrane Bioreactor (MBR)
Plant Design
The Doosan Hydro Technology innovative MBR systems for treating domestic sewage and biodegradable wastewater uses an external ultrafiltration membrane system to separate the solids or sludge form the mixed liquor. This permits independent operation and control of the biological process and the solids separation.
Independent biological treatment process can be customized for specific treatment objectives such as nutrient removal, destruction of specific contaminants, and incorporation of other processes such as chemical reactions or precipitation, and dissolved oxygen control. The treatment of emerging contaminants may require a different biological treatment conditions, hence the separation of the biological process will provide flexibility and more economic advantage to meet future treatment quality objectives.
The separation of the solids or sludge is accomplished by using tubular or flat sheet ultrafiltration membranes. The tubular inside-out membrane has been used for over 30 years in very aggressive industrial, high solid applications. The tubular inside-out UF membrane offers better control compared to outside-in tubular membranes. The flat sheet UF membranes in various configurations have been proven effective in separating biological sludge.
Treated Wastewater Quality
The Doosan Hydro Technology MBR sewage treatment plants produces treated effluent with less than 5 mg/L BOD, less than 1 mg/L suspended solids, and consistent turbidity of less than 0.5 NTU. The UF treated effluent has a SDI value of less than 5 and can be directly feed to a reverse osmosis system, without additional filtration. The UF will also reduce organic matter and will minimize biological fouling in the downstream reverse osmosis systems.
Plant Capacities
The ranges in capacity for the Doosan Hydro Technology MBR systems are available in standard range of 5,000 gallons/day (20 m3/day) to 100,000 gallons/day (378 m3/day) treatment capacity per module. Additional custom engineered sizes are also available.
